Groundsperson

ABOUT THE RACECOURSE:

THE ROLE:

To work on all aspects of the Flat and National Hunt courses and grounds maintenance and upkeep, operating machinery and tractor driving as required. This will also involve attendance on racedays, including those that take place at weekends.

Principle responsibilities

  • To operate machinery and tractor drive as required
  • To assist in the preparation of all racing surfaces and course renovation after racing
  • To build and repair (maintenance) of hurdles and fences
  • To assist with the movement of the course running rail
  • To assist with moving of all grass areas
  • To operate the irrigation system and water the track and other areas as instructed
  • To assist with the maintenance of non-grass areas inside perimeter fencing
  • To assist with the maintenance of car park areas as and when required
  • To assist with the preparation of planting schemes
  • To carry out general maintenance of machinery as required

In accordance with Health and Safety regulations the job holder is required to take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and of the persons who may be affected by their activities. The job holder must co-operate with the company to enable them to meet their legal duties. This will include awareness of all Health and Safety issues relating to the role including risk assessment, emergency procedures, office safety and any additional relevant training. This list is not definitive.

  • To undertake such other duties as the Company may at times reasonably require
  • This position requires the job holder to be “on-call”, which may, at times, lead to the necessity to attend work outside of the normal working day

IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR THE ROLE:

The job holder should have experience in general grounds maintenance and use of relevant machinery, including experience in tractor driving. The candidate must hol a valid Full UK Driver’s License or equivalent.
